this is a known bug and has been fixed please download blender from this link and try again https://builder.blender.org/download/

never mind i did not see that you tested with 2.73

i am going to test on linux

Can not confirm on Linux 14.04 64-bit
Can confirm on Widows 8.0 64-bit

Bastien Montagne (mont29) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to Normal.

I just wonder if there could be 32bit artefacts in the Video Drivers and how to sort that out.

what are you meaning by "artefacts" and for this it is not likely a driver bug, but make sure you have the latest drivers just in case

ok, I checked and can confirm I have the 64bit Drivers and they are up to date.
well, artefacts was not the right term. But the issue could theoretically also come from different libraries that are needed for 32 and 64bit variants. EG. NVIDIA Comes with openCL.dll and openCL64.dll. I guess this is similar for open GL libs.

I'm not sure. Did you guys test with 2.73rc1 and latest builds from builder.blender.org?

the rc that was available on blender.org Website (2014-12-23 15:42 / hash 273fa0a)

Also it is not specific to what bit your computer is.

For good measure. Are we talking windows 7 RTM or Service pack 1 here?
What is the make and model of your CPU ?

Crashed with these specs

Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600

Would a blender crash file and .dmp be helpful

It doesn't really help having core dumps, we need to be able to reproduce the issue.

@Martijn Berger (juicyfruit), at least one of the crashes are not related on non-AVX processors here. Have you been able to reproduce the issue?

@Thomas Dinges (dingto), @Lukas Tönne (lukastoenne), worth summoning you here as well for tests :)

Sergey Sharybin (sergey) changed the task status from Unknown Status to Resolved.Jan 6 2015, 8:57 PM

I've managed to reproduce the issue on my laptop and fix the issue. At least for me blender does no longer crash.

Please lemme know if you still experiencing the issue. For now considering the issue solved.

I testet today with 2.73 release 64 bit and can confirm that the issue was not present any more. From my perspective the issue is solved.

Thank you very much for the effort and for looking into it.
