IK does not work
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

Win 64, dell inspirion laptop, NVidia graphic Card

Please help : i'm trying to set the IK for bones. I'm preparing the chain of bones, then i'm disconecting parent of the last one ( alt-P) , rename it as an IK-bone. Then I'm choosing IK bone and the last in the chain ( with shift) then I'm trying to add constraint ( tracking / Inverse Kinematics).
Then I'm getting info: IK constaint can be added only to the bones !!! ( and sign: ! plus it does not work) What is wrong?! These are bones!
Is it a bug? Or am i doing something wrong? Help.
Rgst, Stefan.

Hello,

Please provide a .blend with exact steps to reproduce this situation. You have to use the template to provide any information needed : You d'ont give your blender version !

Please note that this is here a bug tracker, not a support site/forum.

Hello,
I use blender from the official site , wersion 2.73a.
I attach the blend file.
Steps:
1/ shift A : add : bone, then tab, extrude chain to three bones ( f.e. 3 bones) ,then last bone : alt p, clear parent. Then select last bone ( renamed to IK bone) plus shift select last one in the chain of bones, then constraint , IK...and it doesn't work. Sign: "IK constaint can be added only to the bones".

Rgst.S,

Hello,

IK is a bone constraint. You must switch to pose mode to add this constraint, and go to bone constraint tab (icon is chain links + bone), not constraint tab (icon is chain links only).
All bone constraints must be added on pose mode, not edit mode.

Cheers,

Great news!
Thank you so much for pointing my ignorance:)))
Best regards.
Stefan.

@Julian Eisel (Severin) Think you can closed as invalid now. I think I have no rights to perform that.

(if I choose Action = change status, I can't choose the new status, and preview is set to "Closed as resolved" ... Didn't try to Submit to see if I can choose status in next step.)

Julian Eisel (Severin) changed the task status from Unknown Status to Archived.Mar 5 2015, 1:13 PM

Okay, closing then. Thx for investigating @Julien DUROURE (julien) :) (afaik you should be able to close as invalid by choosing "Change Status" -> "Invalid" -> "Submit" without any special rights. Not sure why it fails for you)
