Matcaps browser inconsistencies
Closed, ResolvedPublicDESIGN

Description

HI all,
I have came across some inconsistencies in the matcaps browser that I would like to fix.
The inconsistencies are relative to the brushes browser and the goal is just to have the matcaps browser looking nicer.

I propose:

  • changing the embossing style of the buttons in the matcaps broswer to UI_EMBOSS_PULLDOWN

currently:

with style change:

This would be exactly what is used for brushes and, in my opinion, unclutters the browser a lot.

  • changing the direction of placement of the icons in the grid from top to bottom

The first item of the matcaps is the default one and it is currently being placed at the bottom of the grid, moving up. I think it makes more sense (and would be consistent with the brushes) if it would start on the top, however, this would effectively invert the order of the matcaps that everyone is used to already. My motivation to change this is that when custom icons are possible in blender, this widget will be a lot more used than it is now and this would be more noticeable (with incomplete rows at the top). To note is that the matcaps browser, like any menu in blender, mirrors when it is high enough in the interface.

Neither of the changes has any technical difficulty, the question is only if we agree that is good to change it.

Good catch, LGTM (both changes)

+1. Such a subtle change makes a difference. Thanks for finding this!

Looks good to me. I don't really have a preference one way or the other (when comparing matcaps to brushes) but I'm all for consistency!
