2.42RC1: Material preview window update problems
Closed, ArchivedPublicKNOWN ISSUE

Description

There seems to be some updating problems with the new material preview mechanism. Activate the material menu and watch the preview. When one switches the selection from one object to another with a complicated material (reflecting for example... doesn't matter, just something that the rendering will take a moment), the lower left corner gets updated to the new material. While the update happens:

a) go to the 3d view and try to zoom in and out with the mouse wheel continously. As long as you keep the mouse wheel turning, the update window flickers between complete black, the old material's preview and the new one. In addition, the updating does not progress...

b) if you move the mouse cursor between different windows, the preview window presents a mix of the old material's preview, black screen and the new material.

No serious problem, but looks crappy... ;)
To reproduce, open the material window, select the car in the attached file, wait for the material preview to complete then select the ground...

Check the Linux FAQ on blender.org -> Support. You have to tell Nvidia not to use optimized "Buffer flip", which is for games only, but unfortunately default in installations...
