Motion Blur Bug
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)
GPU: Zotac GTX-650 Ti 2GB Edition
Version: Blender 2.74

Hi developers.

If your character has "edge split" on with smooth shading, when you want to render animation with any tipe of motion blur, the bluriness is becoming very jumpy and goes to random directions.
<This bug is repeatable>

I sent you an example

If you can see the main character's motion blur is very buggy, but the duck's motion blur works perfectly (They are on the same Render Layer, and I used vector blur)
Works ok only, when character hasn't "edge split" modifier.

How to get this Bug.

1.Create an object and add some bones(use weight painting for bone moving system)
2.Make your bones IK(Inverse Kinematics)
3.Turn Smooth Shading on
4.Then add to the object "Edge Split" modifier
5.Animate a simple animation
6.Use the Cycles Renderer
7.Go to->Render Layers/Passes and check "Vector" on
8.Then enable "motion blur" from Render Settings, or "vector blur" from Node Editor
9.Render Animation
10.In your video you can see, that your character's motion gets stretched rapidly all over the place.

Please fix this bug, or people have to add motion blur in other video editing softwares, which are not doing it right often, Btw this is the BEST program ever(Im not joking), Keep improving your awesome Masterpiece and sorry for my not perfect English. :)

If you use the edge-split modifier - this adds/removes geometry in a way thats incompatible with motion blur.

Your options are:

  • Disable the 'angle' option, and only split sharp edges.
  • Use auto smooth.
