Weight paint not showing in viewport
Closed, ArchivedPublicKNOWN ISSUE

Description

System Information
Linux X86_64, Radeon HD4650

Blender Version
Broken: 2.75a c27589e, and all previous until 2.72
Worked: 2.72 95182d1

Short description of error
Weight painting gradient doesn't show in the model, all model covered in blue, so I can't see what I'm actually painting, but the model deforms in pose mode, so the weights are being applied, I just can't see them. The custom weight paint range on the system menu doesn't have an effect either.
Bug seems to be introduced in 2.73, the first version broken.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open file, go into weight painting mode. This file is just a example easy at hand, the error is generalized.

I cannot reproduce this here.

version 2.75 (sub 4), branch b'master', commit date b'2015-08-02' b'21:46', hash b'00857be', b'Release'

Also can't redo this error.

@Tobias Silva (marsinvader), how are you going into weight paint mode?

Shift+RMB on the mesh. then select weight paint mode from the 3D View header "Object Mode" popup is working here.

Sergey Sharybin (sergey) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to 30.Aug 4 2015, 11:37 AM

I can't reproduce the issue as well.

One more thing to try: run "blender-softwaregl" from the official archive and see if it makes any difference.

@Campbell Barton (campbellbarton), I'm just selecting the object and selecting "Weight Paint" in the popup menu, like you said, it works fine in 2.72, but @Sergey Sharybin (sergey) is right, in softwaregl mode it works, so it's something with my graphics card, (that is ancient, I know, but right now to change that is not an option, and it worked before anyways).

@Tobias Silva (marsinvader), you can try if up- or even down-grading solves the issue, but since this is likely a driver issue I'm afraid we can't do much.

@Antonis Ryakiotakis (psy-fi), what do you think?

Can't reproduce either. Definitely looks like a driver issue. I don't think this will influence things much, but can you try opening the file after resetting to factory settings or try changing the VBO option?

No answer for a week, so closing this (also because it really seems like a driver issue).

I have same issue.
Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit.
Seems it affect only radeon cards.

Edit:

  • vbo off didn't help
  • tried ./blender-softwaregl. Works but slow.

@Eugene Minov (minyor):
It will be caused by the driver of the graphic card which you use if this does not occur on blender-softwaregl.
I suggest that you test it by the latest driver.
