This confused me for a while, but the the Thickness and Depth type-ins for the Inset Faces tool do not use the scene's unit settings when working in Imperial units.
- Set the scene units to "Imperial"
- Create a cube 1'x1'x1'.
- Use the Inset Faces Tool (press "i" or select from the Tools panel).
- Type in a Thickness value or Depth value.
- Not the value is in meters still.
It would be extremely handy if these type-ins behaved similar to the Extrude tool -- meaning that they displayed in the scene's units. This way I could easily create an inset face by say 1" -- very useful for us crazy imperial people trying to use Blender for woodworking.
