Masking vertices in weight paint doesn't work with subsurf
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

System Information
Windows 7, Nvidia Geforce GT 440
also tested official 2.77 on Linux 64 Bit

Blender Version
Broken: 2.77 22a2853
Worked: (optional) 2.76 48f7dd6

Short description of error
When Subsurf modifier is active, while weight painting, you can't select any vertex after pressing 'V'
Instead, the screen darkens( on 'Window Drawing Method' set to 'Triple Buffering') or glitches a bit until next possible window refresh(either 1 second of wait, or mouse move)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

  1. Open new file
  2. Add 'Subsurf' modifier to a model
  3. Enter 'Weight Paint' mode
  4. Press 'V' to enter 'Vertex Selection masking' mode
  5. Try to select one or more vertices (by right clicking, Circle selecting or Box Selecting)

Trying to for example deselect the vertices with B + MMB causes the interface to go dark and weird.

Trying to select vertices with RMB after pressing A to deselect doesn't work.

Edit I record video of it happening

circle/box select does not seem to work definitely in weight paint for the mesh object with subserf modifier.
