First of all, please avoid submitting a 200Mb file with 1.2M faces as example of bug, it's awfully heavy and pretty much unusable to investigate a bug anyway.

And I see no real issue with that file, seems to import OK to me? What do you expect exactly?

I have imported the STL into both blender and another STL viewer (simplify3D). Simplify3D renders it correctly

Attaching both files.

thanks

Am getting correct results in Blender master here. Please try the latest build from our buildbot, and ensure you do not have an old STL importer somewhere in your user config blender path…

Tested, works as expected here too, (it looks like @Mohammed Khorakiwala (mhk3000)'s first image).

Suspect you're importing different files.

{F324981}I am having the same problem with the nightly build. Just to make sure, the attached image is how the file should render.

Yeah, that’s what we are getting here, with both current master and official 2.77a release. So either you are not importing correct file or, more likely, you have some older, buggy version of STL addon somewhere in your user .blender config folder, which overrides official released version.

Or there is some odd bug specific to your platform, could some OSX-based dev test this? @Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) maybe, or @Mike Erwin (merwin)?

Chance that files import as totally different & continuous surface is similar to chance a photo accidentally loads as a different person.

Closing, can re-open if there is some evidence the importer as at fault, this is likely an accident loading the wrong file.

I am pretty sure I have not loaded an incorrect file. Pls reopen the ticket. Is everyone testing this on a Mac or another platform.
