Can't Zoom out on Mac OS with Trackpad / Crash
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Mac OS 10.11.5 / NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB / MacBook Pro Retina 2012

Blender Version
Blender 2.7.8

Short description of error
After zooming in max cursor starts re-entering viewport on opposite edge and panning as well as zooming stops working completely. Only fix is to use View menu : View all, but only temporary. After having zoomed in to the max once even after View all the app will produce errors panning and zooming and eventually become unresponsive.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Occurs 100 percent of the time. For easier reproduction of condition set Drag Threshold to 40

Fresh installation of Blender or ""Factory Settings.
Enable "Emulate 3 Button Mouse.
Max zoom into default cube or scene using option-ctrl drag
Lift finger off trackpad after zoom to produce condition.

Continued attempts to zoom out will eventually leave the app unresponsive altogether so that it will have to be force quit.

This bug has been reported in various other instances for years (http://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/644/why-does-the-zoom-sometimes-stop-at-a-point). All indications seem to point towards a depth value overflowing.

We need some developer with this hardware to look into this issue.

Certainly Blender stops zooming at a certain point, as explained in the answer on stack exchange. Re-entering the viewport on the opposite edge sounds like continuous grab. These are not bugs, but a crash would be. However I couldn't reproduce any crash with latest master on macOS 10.12, zooming out again after having zoomed in fully towards the center point works fine for me.
