Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system and graphics card
Debian 8.5 Jessy
Blender Version
Broken: 2.7.8 RC 2 9d70344 (Implementation of blender is running from a download in a directory in my /home but blender is in version 2.72b from debian sources in my system too )

Short description of error
.obj exported file(selected object)=wrong saving but .stl does

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Did select faces in edit mode fix that hole with Make Edge/Face.
Export with (selected object) object but the hole is still.
Export .stl does the job

Regards

PS: I can not reproduce on 2.72 the editing - some error make/edge face, so i import that stl file stl.stl and save it to obj.obj and its complete ?! Could it be my outsided blender
If you cannot reproduce ,sorry

You can see the exported stl file have the hole closed

From the report it says that you're running the RC2 version. Please try it on the official version of Blender 2.78a or/and the latest developer build and let us know if the error is still present.

Yes its very the same 2.78a e8299c8 for me and no difference intel on cpu or nvidia gtx 760 m with bumblebee optimus(if this could confuse the process of export)

edit : and it looks too that it miss some formatting about colors(and i did remember wondering about that i get this white meshes).
Because of selection of meshes i did start using obj some time ago

Small hint - When you attach files make sure that you have empty spaces between the brackets with Fsomenumbers links and any other text in the comment field because it can fail to format properly like in the last image of the previous post. The preview at bottom of the page will show you how the report / comment will look like when submitted.

Which file is the example and what is the difference between them? There are two of them with the same name and one is around 20 mb and the other one is 4mb.

Yes thanks i fix my writing here now. the 4.4mb file is good enough. The first file i upload but have to leave the house in a hurry and drop my notebook into Resume but the upload maybe was not finished.Back later i upload another file because i check for make/Add Face.

I dont know this forum system and was think the first file is gone.

In the 4.4 mb file you can add a face and then export for .obj and stl for example

Thanks for the clarification. :)

The issue from what i get is that importing the resulting OBJ in Mesh Lab will cause the bottom missing from the vase. The vase itself has several problems with the geometry - duplicated vertices (over 10000), spacing between the walls (faces popping), but the big one is at the bottom - the face created is a distorted Non Manifold N-gon.

The difference between the STL exporter and the OBJ one is that first triangulates the mesh automatically during export. The OBJ on the other hand does not, as it needs to be explicitly enabled in the Exporter Options.

Enable the option Triangulate Faces in the Export OBJ panel. That will split the N-gon and allow Mesh Lab to import properly.

How the triangulated exported OBJ looks in Mesh Lab.

Now i did use my better construct about this vase. And it works perfectly.Just i found too the problems you describe but not for in such a accurate way.

The main problem was maybe i did confuse myself with a lot of meshs i created over the time. The mesh was created with a curve into a mesh and screw it to 360.But with many problems.Always i get a mesh with manifolds(could be considered as a bug too), allover, making the mesh unusable.Later i found a way to clean all the problems out with a combination of Remesh Solidify and shrinkswap another mesh over it.

I looks like i have to found a way to have a better organisation over my mesh quality.

Thank you for your help. For blender i would wish that it have such a mode to find problems, like meshixer have.It could be help maybe or confusing more, sometimes if you have a fever to create. :)
