Render preview error
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

Sorry if this is not the appropriate place to report that, but I've already reinstalled drivers and blender itself and the error goes on every time.

System Information
Windows 10 and NVIDIA GeForce 940M

Blender Version
Broken: 2.78 (sub 0)

When using Cycles Render and trying to use the Rendered method to display, only when I change to GPU under the
'Type of active data to display' menu->Device, it doesn't shows nothing but the "chess" screen and the error: "CUDA: error at cuCtxCreate: Launch failed".

Opens blender->Delete all objects->Cycles Render->Add mesh (text)->Apply material to mesh->Switch Device to GPU->Choose rendered view

Please:

  • Give us your exact Blender, OS and GPU (including drivers) versions, as requested in the template!
  • Ensure both your OS and drivers are fully up-to-date (and use official GPU drivers, not those provided by windows or tablet/laptop maker).
  • Try the latest build from our buildbot.
  • Try to start Blender in factory settings (--factory-startup commandline option) (this will ensure whether this is a userpref or addon issue or not).
  • Launch Blender from the command line with --debug-cycles option and attach as text file here any error printed out in the console (do not paste it directly in comment).

Also, not really convinced a 940m is suited for CUDA rendering, this is not very powerful GPU – but it should work, I think…
