Nvidia GeForce 840M, 2 GB

Blender Version
2.79 RC1

Short description of error
After using Principled Shader and Smooth shading, The material view does not work correctly as it shows weird shape. Please check attached image. Image is self-explanatory.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Use 'Principled' Shader on cube which comes with startup file.
  2. Change shading to 'Smooth'.
  3. Change view mode to 'Material'. It will show distorted object.

The same issue happens in Cycles when using a similar light setup of sharp sun lights. The normals and the actual geometry are too different to give good results.

It might be possible to improve something here, but this entire viewport shading is being rewritten for 2.8x and I don't think it's worth trying to improve the existing one further.

Maybe, but we can't render low poly objects normally. It's too long for waiting for 2.8x version. Please, fix this. For some people, it's not a bug, but for game developers - it's HUGE problem.
