Worked: 2.78c all the way back to 2.69

Short description of error
2.79 renders all white, while older versions render ok.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps
simply switch to internal and hit render.

NOTE: I did not create the file, it is from https://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/73196 I am only using it for some stuff.

This is not a bug. But rather the result of an UI inconsistency that have been solved between 2.78c and 2.79.

You are using a .blend file set-up for Cycles.
You are switching to Blender Internal.

In 2.78c, a pass that exists only for Cycles (Glossy Indirect) was kept in renderlayer node. It was added as a pure Black Image because Blender Internal is not able to render such a thing.
So, this pure black result is connected to a soften filter node who is added to final result. So, in 2.78c nothing is added.

In 2.79, when switch is done, Glossy Indirect pass is removed from Renderlayer node. So, there is no more connection between renderlayer node and soften node.
Soften node use its input color instead of pure black. It uses pure White. So, Pure White is added to final result.

Nobody can expect a scene created for Cycles to work correctly with Blender Internal.
