Sculpt glitches when using Eevee
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Blender Version

Worked: Not sure if it ever did.

Short description of error
Artifacts (light variation, ghosting) when sculpting with Eevee.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Open the following file and continue sculpting:

You will soon get artifacts like:

To reproduce from scratch you can start with a sphere, subdivide a few times. I had to turn dyntopo and sculpt a bit before turning off. But I'm not sure if it's related, or just that dyntopo gives me a particularly messy mesh.

Event Timeline

Dalai Felinto (dfelinto) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to 50.

So, originally I created a file in 2.79, used dyntopo a bit, turned it off. If I open the file in 2.8 I get artifacts. This is the file originally shared above. However, if I export the file as obj and re-import it, the mesh is fine (I had to clear Sharp for edges and make it Flat shaded to match the look of the other mesh).

In fact if you put both meshes side-by-side you can see that the dyntopo one is darker the moment you start sculpting (the one on the right):

The same is valid for Clay.

Ok got it it's caused by TAA. Put the viewport samples to 1 and it disappear.

Now I (or someone else) need to disable TAA when doing a sculpting stroke...

Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) changed the task status from Unknown Status to Resolved.Mar 26 2019, 1:33 PM

Already fixed it seems.
