Units will not stay in millimeters
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Windows 10 x64, NVIDIA GTX 760

Blender Version
Broken: blender-2.79.0-git.0aec2dc-windows64 (Feb 24, 2018 build)
Worked: Not sure. It has been like this for a while

Short description of error
When I use Blender to model for 3D printing I like to work in mm. I select it but it keeps reverting to Blender units.
I made a 1 minute video that demonstrates it: https://youtu.be/hVC_id1XhQw

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open blender
Delete the cube :)
Select the scene tab
Select unit preset millimeters
shift-a select mesh cylinder
Change the raduis from default 1m to 8mm
Cylinder is not 8mm and unit preset still says mm but length unit shows None

Event Timeline

Changing the scene unit scale using the presets doesn't create an undo step so you will revert to the previous value when changing the cylinder radius (which is basically an undo and then a new operator with the new radius value). You can get around this by typing the value manually, so just changing to metric and typing 0.01. You can also save a startup scene with those settings using Save Startup File.

@Henrik Berglund (cyaoeu) said it all, this undo/redo issue is a know limitation of Blender currently, not considered a bug. Thanks for the report anyway.
