GPU rendering is so slow in iMac Pro
Just render with the same scene with both CPU and GPU on iMac Pro then compare the render time.

I don't have a Mac like this to test unfortunately, so this is unlikely to be fixed soon.

In general we do not have good support for GPU rendering with AMD on macOS, partially due to poor OpenCL drivers, partially due to us having little time to optimize for these problematic drivers specifically. AMD ProRender switched to the proprietary Metal API recently, maybe that is the right solution since Apple seems to be abandoning OpenCL. But that is a big project unfortunately.
