Overlay visualisations

Description

Visual examples for each of the overlays we want to support.

We want to support these kinds of things, but not necessarily in the same way we solved them in 2.79:

  • Outlines
  • View/Hide elements (Grid, 3D Cursor, etc. )
  • Wire Front
  • Wire Back
  • Silhouette Overlap
  • Bone selection?
  • Normal direction
  • 3D Printing overlay (overhang, wall thickness etc)
  • Normals
  • Weights
  • Length, size and angles
  • Floor
  • Shadow
  • X-Ray
  • Motion Blur
  • Onion Skinning

Shading: Random colors

    • etc

i was wondering why "object overlap" is under the shading options instead of the overlays ?.
also, if im using "single color", but with the material option... should i be seeing the material?

also, why is "texture" a different thing "mode", it seems to fit in between the options of single color to me unless it has some other special options that wouldnt work in tune with single color.

just some thoughts based on testing.

Also would be nice to be able to turn the grid off for when you're in ortho.

Will things like fps, and all those little things we used to have on our view still be there as overlays, or will they become part of the "status bar" that i've been hearing about?

Could it be possible to keep the edit mode object visible when hiding overlays?
Like that we could concentrate on modeling and not have lights or camera visible.

And/Or add object.type visualisation, for example, hide overlays, but keep this type of object visible.

and

visible mask in sculpt mode
visible paint in vertex and weight paint mode.
show wire in vertex and weight paint mode( hide overlays, but keep this type of object visible.) or something like that.

because it is too tedious to active and deactive every Checkboxes every time working on paint , sculpt or modeling.

I use mask in sculpt mode a lot, also I disabled all overlays, but mask is an active tool that can't be used with all the overlays disable. I think that is bad designer. There are more examples on this. Overlays that are fundamental to active tools must be active every time you use that tool. Maybe this tools can overide the overlay state.
