when using Blender everything froze, it did it twice to me so far. Both times I was zooming in and rotating the view.
Specs:
hp desktop
1.5Ghz Intel Pentium 4
512MB Ram
32Mb Graphics Card
Windows XP Home
Python is installed, and also GTK+ environment.
I have a notebook with almost the same specs and it runs Blender without ever freezing up. Only one major thing that is different. The Desktop computer uses McAfee anti virus software, and Notebook has AVG. Other then that same programs installed on both.
Also, one other problem I am having is that when using an image in the background no matter what size, everything just moves very slow. I know my graphics card kind of sucks, but not that much.
Anyways, thanks for working on Blender!!

what is the graphics card brand? it is likely a driver issue - if it is an ati driver, turn down or off the graphics card acceleration.

A 32 MB graphics card is very limited. See the note Val made about background image... such issues (like when blender appears to be slow) is really depending the drivers and 3d card capabilities, nothing we can do fixes for.
If I were you I'd really check carefully on updating drivers for the card, and better even is to get a newer one! For serious 3d work, 64 or 128 MB is a good minimum nowadays.

Yes, I do need a new graphics card, but thats not the reason why Blender caused my computer to freeze. Why? Because I have a notebook with almost exact same everything, which means it also has a 32Mb graphics card, and Blender never crashed on it, even with big very big files opened.

Hi,
It might not be your ram but your graphics card driver - you still didn't say what graphics card you are using - is it an ATI, or SIS or Intel? Did you try turning down the graphics card acceleration or try updating your driver? Also are you using any of the 3D accelerated desktops?

Everything works and moves fine, but randomly it will freeze, if it was the graphics card it would freeze right away.
It happens when I hold the middle mouse button, so I am guessing it might be the mouse, because it is 5-6 years old and needs to be replaced.
I will try to change it and upgrade the graphics card software , and see what happens.

"Everything works and moves fine, but randomly it will freeze, if it was the graphics card it would freeze right away. "
I do wish you would answer the question regarding exactly what graphics card it is - no in fact it would not necessarily 'freeze right away'.
it happening when you hold the middle mouse button suggests it might be something else though...
This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
