Broken: (version 2.79)
Short description of error
Whenever I try playing back my animation via the play button on the timeline, blender crashes almost immediately. This first occurred when rendering particles, but now I realize it occurs every time, no matter what seems to be on screen or how many objects and particles have been deleted or remain invisible. For some reason, I can still render the animation, but what I want to do is watch it in my viewport via the material, solid, wireframe, or any view without it immediately crashing. This has never happened to me before. I don't know if it is because there are too many objects in too many different layers or what.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
To reproduce this error, simply open the blend file and try playing the animation with alt + a or move to different frames on the timeline.
