Blender CVS freezes computer if loaded again after quiting a few times
Closed, ArchivedPublicKNOWN ISSUE

Description

I can load Blender CVS normally. But if I exit it, then reload it without first rebooting my computer, it will cause my computer to freeze. It doesn't always freeze on the second loading but usually freezes on the third opening. Also I can do other things in between reopenings of blender and it will still usually freeze. All the types of freezes are sometimes different. Sometimes blender will just crash and not reload until a reboot. But most of the time the mouse along with everything else will freeze. A few times blender has frozen but using Alt+Tab I have been able to continue doing things, but re-clicking on blender freezes the computer again.

Running the program with GDB I got the following message:
------------------------
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Operating System: Kubuntu 6.10
Memory: 256 MBs : 32 MBs used for onboard video card
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce2
Video Card Drivers: 1.0-8776
CVS Build Date: 31/12/2006 (Australia Date Format)
Processor: AMD AthlonXP 1800

Steps to reproduce:
1. load blender
2. quit
3. load blender
4. quit
5. load blender
Usually it will freeze here but it sometimes does it before, or after if you continue loading and quiting.

This program at version 2.42a Ubuntu Build, did not freeze my computer. However it used to sometimes come up with a message "Segmentation Fault" and not load blender anymore, if I tried the same steps as mentioned before.

Hi,

you need to report the 2.42a bug to Ubuntu - it is almost certainly a XLib/driver bug which we can't do anything to fix. They won't look at anything you build yourself - so you need to report it against their official 2.42a build.
