This is most certainly a problem related to opengl. Please check the OSX readme in the install, it gives you some hints.. especially set your display to "1000s of colors".

If that doesn't help, then load from blender.org the official 2.42a AND the 2.43 RC testing release. It is always important that you give information what version you are using.

This happens in the last versions of blender!I think since The version 2.37a, but i am not sure! The other versions of blender I didn't have any problem with this.

I already tested the version 2.42a and de new 2.43RC, it happens the some error in the two versions. The error that i paste before is form de version 2.43 RC

Ton you said to check de OSX readme in the install. Are you talking about the blender readme OSX file?

In the preferences > displays > colors i use the "color LCD" i don't know if this can help.
My Apple is a PowerBook G4 15 1.5Ghz 512MB RAM.

Ok! I think I see it!

I chance the preferences from OSX in th menu

Preferences -> displays -> display

I set the colors to "thousands" then I opened blender -> it crashes
Then I set the colors to "256 colors" then I opened blender -> it crashes
I also tried again the colors to "Millions" then I opened blender -> It also crashes

Are you sure you have the correct binary downloaded? Note that there are a lot of different versions for osx, for older or newer python, and for intel...

You might try to load a 10.3 compiled version... these should run in 10.4 fine.

Well I can give more information:

I have download the new version in http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.43rc/ .
I have installed "Blender-2.43RC1-OSX-10.3-py23-powerpc.zip" (I think this is the correct binary, because the blender-2.43RC1-OSX-10.4-i386-bz.dmg is for intel i think because it doesn't open in my powerbook) .

I don't know what version of python I have in the mac.

I remember more or less what happened may this can help.
I remember that i have the blender ver 2.36 or 2.37 and it work fine, but a installed the version 2.4x in a new folder (I also made some Apple updates to the software) , then I think the two versions crashed. And a Think the version 2.4xit crashed when you save a file (This last version the save is OK).

I always thought that the problem was from the OSX (and I always sent the report to then) or from the new version of blender! But till now I have update doth blender and OSX and this problem is still here.

This erros doesn't happen in any other application, just blender.
So probably the error is from blender, but i don't understand must of this.

I still have no clue. I use myself OSX and I know thousands of people happily use Blender on osx systems. There must be something wrong in your system, but what?

try this; open a terminal (in applications, utilities) and type this:

mv ~/.B.blend ~/.B.blendo

that moves the default startup .blend file away. then start blender again

That user reports issues, while his gfx card has 32 MB memory. That is a typical case for crashing. He should set the display to "thousands of colours".

check on download.blender.org/release/ and try older versions, like 2.30 or 2.35?

I tryed version 2.3a, 2.5a and 2.36 and all crached (the same problem)!
I know that blender allready work fine in my Apple (like the version 2.36 and 2.37a)!

So it must be somenthing in my Apple! But what?
I don't have a clue!

Is reinstalling the mac OSX over again an option?

re-installing might be an option, but that would mean we still don't know why the crash happens.

I know know the line of code, but still this is very strange, it should never crash on that line, unless something in memory is seriously messed up.
Did you ever check the console for prints? (running console gives debug prints in applications).

I'm uploading now a blender_osx_test2.zip with a newer binary, please try again and when it crashes gives me the report again, and don't forget to check the console, and give me blender related prints there too.

I have to give up... remove debugging is really far too hard this way. The only way to solve it really is for you to install the sources, compile it yourself with debug symbols, and then run a debugger on it.

Oh, here's a last tip:

- login in your mac under another account (other user) and try to run blender

So, what does it mean?

In that case there might be a corrupt start up file for you as user.

Check, with a terminal.app, all files in you home (probably /Users/VAMM/) that start with ".B".
I want these files, so don't delete them but move them away like this in a terminal:

cd /Users/VAMM
mkdir Desktop/for_ton
mv .B* Desktop/for_ton/

Now run Blender. I bet (hope) it works.

Then zip the directory for_ton and attach it here!

The .Blog file contained a file name like this:

/Volumes/Macintosh VAMM/Trabalhos-Projectos/Multimédia/3D/Exercicios/material Cromado e Cristal - DoF - HDR - YafRay/materialCromado-Cristal-DoF-HDR-Yafray.blend

I found out that this corrupts internal memory in Blender... file paths are officially only supported up to 240 chars, but in some old parts of code it was still 160.

Note that the version of Blender you have now still is not safe for this case. So, using the file as mentioned above will again give crashing blenders.
Instead, for time being, rename directories a bit shorter, ok? :)
