Blender 2.79, Shear tool not work with hotkeys X, Y
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello.
Shear tool (Shift-Ctrl-Alt-S) not work with hotkeys X, Y. Working only with middle mouse button click. Thank.

Event Timeline

William Reynish (billreynish) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to 50.

Confirmed. This must have happened with the changes needed to support the Shear tool in the toolbar.

Shear uses two axis now, setting X/Y only worked for 2D screen space shear.

Should be made to work still.

ye, i know - shear work in front, right, left, top, bottom view (ortho), but keys X/Y just don't working, like in blender 2.79.5 and older versions (2.78-2.77)

@Alex (Paladinqp): Right - what @Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) is saying here, is that Shear now works differently. Before, Shear would always shear relative to the screen X/Y. This meant that you had to be very careful about how you would orient your viewport, because the viewport direction was used. Now, Shear uses the proper orientation set by the user, which can be View, Global, Local or whatever. This change has broken the ability to use the X or Y keys, but it could be added to the new way shear works.

ок, mayby just need add

and please create video tutorial and add to blender manual how use Shear tool and new features with using custom user orientation and View, Global, Local, Normal orientations

I reproduced this bug in blender 2.80rc1, but not the latest daily build, so it appears the bug has been fixed already.

Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/
