Random icon images when moving mouse around the interface
Closed, ArchivedPublicKNOWN ISSUE

Description

I have already posted this in the main tracker, and just realised that there is a specific OpenGL tracker, so here is a re-post. Sorry if it's against posting rules.

This is a problem I encounter in Blender 2.43 RC2:

When you move the mouse around the interface (hover above various buttons), once various interface objects get highlighted (borders, buttons, menus), icons change to random images! Each time you move the mouse to a different position, the icons change again. That is, several times a second if you quickly hover over several buttons. It is slightly difficult to explain this, therefore please have a look at the attached screenshots.

My system info:
Windows XP SP1
Mobility Radeon 9600 (64MB) with OpenGL
1.5GB RAM

This used to be fine in previous Blender versions on my system!

It would be great if someone could look into this and get it sorted for the final 2.43 release.

THANKS!

Thanks for your quick response!

This problem has now been SOLVED on my machine!

It appears that it was my fault as I was using a rather out-of-date OpenGL driver (version 1.4.4145) - as you were unable to reproduce the same issue on your system, I realised it could be my ATI drivers. Just downloaded and installed the latest package from ATI website and now it works as it used to.

Anyway, I am 100% sure it used to work without such glitches with earlier Blender versions on the same installation of Windows (I haven't formatted my PC for over a year). Last version I tried was either 2.36 or 2.41 (can't remember exactly - but one of these for sure).

Today, before updating the drivers, I tried it on 2.42a (both with international fonts on and off) and it had glitches as well. I had not tried icon themes or any other such features. It was just a standard installation. So probably something had changed since version 2.41 that was causing this problem on systems with out of date OpenGL drivers.

Sorry for being stupid this time, but this possibly highlighted an issue which other old-fashined newcomers might experience, and emphasised the need to always use the latest drivers available.

Thanks very much indeed.

This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
