Can't set [SplineType]

Can't set spline type to Bezier - If I convert a series of edges to a spline using the Object menu then I don't have access to the spline type menu entry that existed in 2.79b

Not sure what you mean, in edit mode of curve you have Curve -> Set Spline Type menu entry…
