Short description of error
Simply launching Blender and then clicking in the viewport will cause my entire system to lock up for a few seconds (keyboard and mouse completely frozen). Then it comes back to life for a few more seconds. Then it locks up again. Bringing up the splash screen seems to stop this behavior (in fact, it only starts after my first click in the viewport). It also does not happen as long as I am not mousing over the blender window. But even simple things like using the menus locks up the system.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Launch Blender. Click in the viewport or open menus.
