Short description of error
When assigning the principled volume shader, should it not automatically be assigned to the volume output? It is currently assigned to the surface output... Just feels odd that I always have to switch it to get the result I want.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Just assign principled volume shader to anything, in cycles or in eevee

The material properties have both a Surface and Volume panel, so you need to choose the appropriate one to assign the volume shader.

This is a little confusing, but it's useful to have both when you want to assign both a surface and a volume shader.
