Cannot load a Background image in 3D view, under Linux (Fedora Core 6), on both 2.43 and CVS versions (Tested under OSX too, works fine there). When clicking on the Load button, the file browser properly pops in, but then once an image is selected nothing happens, it isn't displayed in the background of the current ortho view, nor even in the 'Background Image' window.

This happens for certain 3d cards or drivers, these don't support blended in graphics and/or certain image sizes for drawing. Can't do much here, apart from trying to tweak settings (and read blender.org faq!)

Actually, I was about to update the post: it looks like I can't load any image at all, wether it is as texture, in the uv/image view or as a background. All I can get are thumbnails in the image viewer. I'm doubtful it has anything to do with blending mode since the video card is a high end NVidia card with the latest drivers. I suspect there may be something wrong with libjpg or libpng; is there a way to get some debug info when trying to load an image?
PS: I did read the FAQ, I'm very sorry if I missed somehting. :)

For a valid you have to provide us with information we can redo... further:
- always verify with the version(s) from blender.org
- check with the standard demos, http://download.blender.org/demo/test/test243.zip

Yes I figured it out. :)
I hope I didn't make you lose too much time with this incomplete report, I'll investigate further on by myself.
This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
