When working on a tutorial I have to constantly press alt+tab to read a section and then return to Blender to try it. Every time I use alt+tab and try to get back to Blender nothing happens, I see the screen change, but it's a hollow window, I can see Ubuntu through it but the image is frozen and unresponsive, pressing alt+tab again will return me to Ubuntu again.
This keeps happening, also after fully updating Ubuntu.
I'm using an Acer laptop, the TravelMate 4001WLMi,
Centrino Platform,
Pentium-M 1,5GHz
2x256MB DDR 333 samsung
ATi Mobility Radeon 9700pro 64MB
60GB 4.200rpm IBM hdd
Linux ubuntu 2.6.17-11-generic #2 SMP Thu Feb 1 19:52:28 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
Gnome 2.16.1, Installing the ATi driver made no difference.
(currently a bit puzzled why I'm running an SMP kernel on a single core/cpu system, first time I noticed)

Clearly opengl became unresponsive then... this is one the many opengl or x11 glitches we still suffer in Blender. It's not consistant (only for certain driver/card/windowmanger combos). We need a developer to track this down into detail and find a bypass (if there's one...)
I use OSX myself, and hiding/reveiling blender goes OK... I've seen this working fine in Linux.
