Alpha Blend behavior changed

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10 17763 x64
Graphics card: Radeon RX Vega 64

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 71), branch: master, commit date: 2019-05-21 16:07, hash: rB522320dadf5a
Worked: early May and earlier builds

Short description of error
I have several projects that make extensive use of Images using 'Alpha Blend' in the material settings for transparancy around hand drawn characters, In the new builds 'Alpha Blend' makes the whole image plane invisible. If I change 'Alpha Blend' to 'Alpha Clip' the images work again
Is this a change to how 'Alpha Blend' works, or a bug?

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
using an image with alpha channel (PNG) import to Blender "Images as Planes" and in material settings set 'Blend Mode to 'Alpha Blend' the alpha channel should dissapear leaving the drawing. Right now the whole image is invisible.

There were indeed changes.

We require an example .blend file and image to investigate bugs.

It works using the new Principled BSDF shader method, looks like I have a lot of project files to change!
The price of progress...

Thanks!
