Please provide a simple test file that allows as to reproduce the issue.

The file has been added.

I've never really used the shadow catcher myself, but isn't this exactly how it is supposed to work?

Maybe @Sebastian Koenig (sebastian_k) can help here.

It's not :p The shadow catcher should be fully transparent, only the shadow should show up (it was the behavior before 2.8, and apparently during early beta testing).

here work fine on linux Blender 2.80 f6cb5f54494e AMD FX8350, 16GB DDR3, GTX690 2+2 GB VRam- Nvidia drivers 435.17, i have only activated shadow Catcher for plane

You forgot to upload a simplest possible .blend file to reproduce this issue

The operating system, main memory size, GPU brand and model, GPU driver version and Blender hash or its build date may be needed by developers to investigate this issue

The blend file has been uploaded, but thanks for your contribution !
It looks like it's a Windows related issue then.

Actually, the file you included is a different case than the one you show in the picture. In the picture included the shadowcatcher covers up an HDR texture, which I cannot replicate (I'm on windows).
In the file you include though, the shadow catcher covers up other objects in the scene.
Could you submit a file in which a HDR texture is being covered by a shadowcatcher?

For me it looks like this as well:

@Valentin Remy (Chpouky) how does it look like when you open the file?

Here's the exact same blend file from my example.

@dark999 (dark999) you're file is fine for me, but you don't have a background image in your camera like in my case. If you use one, the issue remains. In the Render tab, under Film, check Transparency and your case is 100% the same as mine.

You file has Transparency unchecked, but with a background image there's still an issue but instead of a plane with the transperent "texture" with all the squares, we see the HDR.

I suppose it's the same issue as this one: T66777
@Jeroen Bakker (jbakker) is already working on it: T65988
But I also hope this gets fixed soon, as it makes VFX nearly impossible.
