absolute grid snap faulty when selected verts' imaginary median point is off-grid
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Linux/OSX
Graphics card: NVidia 1050ti

Blender Version
Build: daily
Don't know when behaviour broke or if it ever worked..

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • edit mode
  • observe snap settings
  • select all verts
  • move verts (observe correct behaviour)
  • select only top 2 verts
  • move verts (observe incorrect behaviour)

It seems that the median point of all selected verts plays a part in snap location.
When number of selected verts' "imaginary median point" being off-grid, incorrect behaviour is seen.

Roel

Hey Germano,

sorry to blatantly assign this to you, but I guess since you're actively updating the snapping system, you could take a look.

Thanks,
Roel

This is how the Increment option works with Absolute Grid Snap,
It always considers the origin of the object or the center of the selected vertices.
This can be improved by making Snap with options affect Absolute Grid Snapping as well.

A new task has been created to handle this situation:
T69342: Snapping: Make 'Absolute Grid Snapping' a new Snap Mode
