Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 436.48

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 15), branch: master, commit date: 2019-10-18 14:41, hash: rB970d7ed860f1
Worked: a856c5eccffb

Short description of error
If I switch to OptiX in either c2a2cd13be2f (2.82 alpha) or 970d7ed860f1 (2.81 beta), it crashes as soon as I render image or render animation.

It works on a856c5eccffb (2.81 alpha, 8.10.2019.)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. open attached file
  2. Switch to OptiX in system settings
  3. Render Image or Render animation, immediate hard crash.

Event Timeline

I cannot reproduce a crash on TOT blender-v2.81-release branch. Might have gotten fixed in the meantime. I suggest trying again once buildbot created a new v2.81 build for today.

I can reproduce.

With RTX 2080, Optix enabled Viewport Render crashes Windows 10, need to hard reset machine. Version from 2 days ago works without issues.

That's a different issue and was fixed today, see T70937. This one talks about a crash not related to viewport rendering.

Germano Cavalcante (mano-wii) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to 30.Oct 22 2019, 1:59 PM

@Dalibor Karlović (dkarlovi), please test with the latest blender builds and, if you can, tell us if the problem has been fixed.

I can no longer get it to crash. It's behaving weirdly in other ways I can't explain, but it does not crash so we can close this one. :)
