Somehow I and many others have managed to trigger some setting to COMPLETELY DISABLE ALL SELECTION and it seems next to impossible to figure out what it was. It seems to be a per-file thing as the default start-up file has selection active again.

Resetting to default UI settings did nothing.

Event Timeline

You've somehow disabled bone selection in viewport for both pose and edit mode. Enable it via the outliner (you will need to expand all bones and click for each one):

Given that there are signs of using a rigging add-on (skinify), I'd look for the cause there.

That might have been in the original file but I have not used that plugin, no.

Thanks for the tip. Is this function(?????) accessible by accident via a key combo?

I was able to fix it using that filter pulldown menu, and afterward the clickable icons on each layer returned too.

As you can see, for some reason the clickable visibility/selectability/etc icons were completely gone for some reason:

Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) claimed this task.

Selectability has been turned OFF for many bones, see

(@Stanislav Blinov (radcapricorn) has already mentioned that)

Cannot see an obvious source for skinify to do that, rigify does that for specific things.

Dont see an obvious bug here though, will archive (we can always reopen if we find the - unwanted - cause for this to happen, for now, just enable selectability again and you should be fine, no?)

The selection restriction toggles are hidden by default, this is by design.

I don't think there's a key combo for that, no, but neither do I think someone would just do that "accidentally", hence my thinking that an add-on might be responsible.
