Short description of error
I'm not sure if this is solely a Blender issue as there have been reports of system hangs requiring hard reset with some games on systems with an RX 5700 (XT).
The computer can last for hours doing things like playing videos or web surfing, but with Blender a crash is likely to happen with this particular graphics card. In Blender I can orbit/pan around without it crashing it's only when modelling I get 100% crash at random times. The crash seems to be triggered (or at least it's more frequent) when entering/exiting edit mode as it's the last thing before the system hangs first, then system crash.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Have an RX 5700 XT card. Use blender normally. System randomly crashes when entering or exiting edit mode.

System hangs, then screen goes black, then resume to this garbled state: no mouse nor keyboard access. Only Alt+SysRq combinations work.

Relevant lines from running journalctl -b -1 after restart.

Event Timeline

Yes, currently I'm using the latest version in your link (19.30) with slight modifications to the deb files for it work with Ubuntu 19.10.

I've had a more stable experience passing AMD_DEBUG=nongg,nodma as environment variables and having iommu=pt pcie_aspm=off amdgpu.dc=1 amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 as GRUB boot parameters. Some of the arguments might not be needed and I'm not sure which exactly does the job making it more stable, it might be any combination of these... Just updating in case someone else comes across this.

I never had this issue with the Radeon RX 5700 (without XT).

Is this still an issue with latest build? https://builder.blender.org/download/

Well you want to run a platform that isn't supported by AMD and Ubuntu, unless it is a supported platform we would be able to help.
Currently AMD Pro drivers do not support Ubuntu 19.10. And Ubuntu 19.10 (kernel) default does not support RX5700. There are people to get things to work, but unless it is supported it will take a lot of effort for something that might be only needed until the platform is supported.
Best way forward is wait for official platform support so we can be sure that it is a blender related issue and fix these issues
