Short description of error
hair "X Mirror" option doesn't work on some area of the mesh.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Please open the file
paint some hair around the head to see that on the back the X mirror option doesn't work.

In case open the attached gif to see what happen on my PC.

Hm, this is because Topology Mirror option is enabled for editmode tooloptions.

Same is true for 2.79 here, but it is very confusing that this option is being considered for particle editmode as well [and we are not even showing it here :/]

Digging a little deeper:

  • stuff happens in brush_edit_apply
  • pe_x_mirror checks ME_EDIT_MIRROR_X only
  • then PE_mirror_x / mesh_get_x_mirror_faces checks ME_EDIT_MIRROR_TOPO as well (to use in mesh_get_x_mirror_vert)

Sooo, Topology Mirror fails for this mesh (but it does moving verts in editmode, too -- this is 'normal' for this mesh I assume). Thats why particle edit brushes fail here, too.

I would actually vote for this not being a bug 'per se', but it is highly misleading to not show the Topology Mirror option for the Cut & Add particle edit brushes...
Guess this is one for the UI mafia, would strongly suggest adding this option (see above)
