Ever since the snapping tool was introduced it causes Blender to crash very frequently. (I use the tool almost on a daily basis). However, I haven't been able to find a consistency in what could cause the crashes, neither the steps I take nor which file seems to matter, it keeps happening. I use the tool mostly in object mode and mode set to 'closest'.
I would suggest to take any file with any Blender version and work with the tool for a while.
OS: XP Prof 32 bit
3D card: Asus 7600 GS 512 Mb
Blender: from 2.43 till 2.45 RC2
PS A few months ago I got a new pc (with the specs above) and the problem is there exactly the same.

Hi this is probably a issue with your graphics card, a bug report with the same problem was just closed - try turning down/off your hardware acceleration and see if that fixes it. Also try ungrading to your latest graphics card driver.
I'd be interested in narrowing a bit more where the problem might be here.
- Does it crash when you snap to the edit mode mesh or only when you snap to another object?
- Does it depend on the snapping mode (closest, median, center) or is it independent?
To go any further, we'd have to use a custom Blender build. If you can build Blender yourself, that'd be perfect, otherwise, I could arrange something to provide test builds for you.
Tom:
I changed the hardware acceleration setting of the GPU from the default 'Multi display performance mode' to 'Compatibilaty performance mode' (I use only 1 display), since then I haven't experienced any Blender crashes.
Martin:
Untill now the solution offered by Tom seems to fix the problem. I use the tool at closest mode for quad meshes only, no multires or subdivisions or anything. In contrary to what I wrote originally I use the snapping tool in edit mode only (not object mode).
This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
