Worked: 2.80, 2.81...

Short description of error

Any mesh on the floor that has edges matching the grid lines they get clipped or overtaken by them.
Saw this in the latest master, I didn't try 2.82.

Left :Master Right :2.81

Wireframes are also hard to see in edit mode if you disable "Highlight selected Faces" in the overlays.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Default Scene or delete the cube and add a plane.
  • Deselect the mesh and enter Wireframe mode.
  • Orbit around the plane and watch the clipping, in certain angles they even cancel out each other.

Well pick a side.

Bias grid behind:

Bias grid in front:

I would personally pick the first to fix this issue. But we loose the 2.79 behavior of showing the grid on top of floor objects.

I'd personally also pick the first one, it's what I would expect at least. If one needs to see the grid, objects can still be moved slightly downwards.

It would have to be the first one, otherwise paths will still be obscured by the grid. Perhaps for the best of both worlds, the grid could be on top of faces, but behind edges/curves?

One thing to mention is that the edit mode wireframe issue is unrelated to the grid. It's because of the wireframe shading that is used to comunicate the shape better on really dense mesh. The fact that it is not really visible is just because it gets mixed with the grid color.
