Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Every time I'm in Shading and I click a mesh, every thing disappears. I have to save and restart Blender but this has been happening every single time. Blender is no longer usable for me.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I'm in Layout adding some Mesh's, and when I go to Shading to work on the colors, etc., when I click them, they simply disappear.
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

Thank you for the report.

This was fixed in rB4e42a98edd8, and was the main reason there was a 2.81a release that you can download here:
https://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.81/blender-2.81a-macOS.dmg

Note that the current version is 2.82a and is available at https://www.blender.org/download/
