Short description of error
I just purchased a course on Udemy for how to use Blender. After downloading and installing the program, it just crashes. I tried reinstalling it, using the zip file and starting it as an administrator. Nothing doing.
Can you please help me figure this out.

My computer is a:
Dell XPS 8930
8th Generation Intel Core i7-8 700 6-Core Processor (12MB Cache, up to 4.6 GHz)
16GB RAM
M.2 256GB PCIe x4 SSD + 2TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive

I already reported the problem, but I haven't heard back after sending the system info.
The case number is T77045 and it has all information there.

I appreciate all the help. Please let me know what I can do to start using Blender.

Thank you for all your help

Please don't create new report if there is something reported already. Your report will eventually be handled.

Sometimes it can take a while for a developer to get round to working with your case. There are many bug reports being made per day and with 2.83 release planned for within the next two weeks, focus is more on fixing critical bugs pertaining to that version rather than to fix issues with a older version of Blender that very few people experience.

I will merge the two tasks and we will continue to conversation over there.

Hi Alaska,
I understand. and I really appreciate your effort.

Again, thank you and have a great day.

Michael

Hi Alaska,
I just want to say I can't even install the program.
When I click the exe. file the command prompt opens, the blender window opens and it just crashes/shuts down.

I hope this gives you more data on how to proceed.

Thank you,
Michael

The most likely cause I can think of is that something is interfering with letting Blender run. I have no idea what. Your computer hardware should be capable of running Blender without issues.

Sorry, I'm unable to help much.

Two last things you can try:

  1. Navigate to C:/Users/YOUR NAME/AppData/Roaming/ and delete the "Blender foundation" folder. Note, the AppData folder may be hidden. To fix this, select from the top of your file browser View>Hidden Items. Then try opening Blender again.
  2. If Blender crashes after that, try navigating to C:/Windows/Temp there may or may not be a Blender crash log in there. If there's one, try uploading it here. I have no idea what it'll be called or if it's even in that folder as I don't use Windows much.

If the crash log doesn't point out any specific issues, then it may just be that you'll have to do a factory reset of your computer to see if it can fix Blender. Because so far it seems the issue is something else on your computer and the best way to eliminate that as a possibility is to reset your computer.

Hi Alaska,

Thank you very much for all your help, I really appreciate it.

I guess a factory reset is in order.

Have a great weekend.
