Graphics card: GTX Titan Xp / GTX 1070

Blender Version
Broken: tested on 2.79 to 2.90

Short description of error :
shadow artifact with a large mesh when the surface is close to the origin of the scene with cycle viewport rendered and render.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Create UV sphere
  • Scale it up to 100
  • move it to have surface close to scene origin
  • Active viewport Cycles render

Might be fixed with D6250.
Not 100% sure the issue is related to that.

test on Blender 2.82.7 and the latest build 2.83.
I confirm the problem with a rather large mesh on Cycle . There are dark artifacts that form on the surface of the object as soon as it approaches the origin of the world. We can see them well in rendered and they also appear sometimes in animation rendering.

This is a known ray tracing precision issue. We plan to improve Cycles here, but we can't handle every individual case as a bug in the tracker.
