System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17134-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 750 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 432.00

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-06-03 14:38, hash: rB211b6c29f771
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Every mode in blender has the name of its keymap section in preferences named "___ mode" except for edit mode which is just called "mesh" this is very confusing and misleading. Would be much easier if it was switched to "edit mode"

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

Event Timeline

Hans Goudey (HooglyBoogly) claimed this task.

The thing is, there are multiple keymaps for "Edit Mode," based on whether you're editing a curve / gpencil, "Mesh" etc.. So I'm not sure I see the inconsistency here.

I only see one ..Mode name here, so I guess that's the inconsistency if there is any.

Thanks for the report, but I don't think I can count this as a bug.

So switch all the modes to "___ mode" and maybe have mesh, curve, armature as a subcategory of edit mode? I don't think its a bug either but this is the only place I know to report things.
