Short description of error

I hit undo and instead of going back one step, it goes back a lot longer.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

I've been working on a scene and using some fairly repetitive steps, so I'll mention the typical steps I've taken.

I'll import a model, say an fbx, work on the materials, move it into place etc. then if I hit undo (shortcut), Blender goes into edit mode (even though I wasn't in edit mode) and reverts back to about an hour ago (I'm guessing it reverts to last saved). The model I imported is gone and any recent changes made are also absent.

There are other complications to this bug that I can't fully explain, but the main characteristic is that when I undo, it goes into edit mode and the history of undo's becomes confused and conflicted with the edit mode undo's.

Also worth noting that while hitting CTRL+Z seems to revert, the revert function doesn't work in the file menu.

Attached the file minus the contents (as the scene would be heavy) as well as the system info text file.

Event Timeline

Also worth noting with my current Blender setup is that I can't undo camera moves using CTRL+SHIFT+Z, nor does the global undo work for this. Just mention because it's undo-realted.

Update: I can confirm that closing Blender and re-opening it fixes the initial undo issue, but need to check that it doesn't come back as I've generally had weird issues with the undo function over the last few days.

Thanks for the report, but unfortunately this can't be triaged as a complete bug report.

For the development team to be able to help, there needs to be reproducible steps (start blender, press this, then that ...) or at least a known regression (Blender version X worked, but not version Y).
If there are many steps to reproduce the problem, please attach a .blend file saved right before the bug occurs, so only a few steps are needed to trigger the bug.

Many bugs are fixed between the official releases. Please try the latest development snapshot of blender: https://builder.blender.org/download

I followed:

  1. Import fbx file
  2. Add material slot and new material (15x)
  3. Move imported model
  4. Undo

And I wasn't able to reproduce the issue. Please provide steps to follow.

No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.

Thanks again for the report. If the problem persists please open a new report with the required information.
