Unable to select certain vertices (regression from 2.79)
Confirmed, NormalPublic

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1080 with Max-Q Design/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 456.38

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.91.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-09-28 19:10, hash: rBd5353eea5b28

Short description of error
Some vertices are impossible to select.

At first I thought it was because the vertices formed a concave area (see first file) but then I hit a second concave case (see second file).

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Without rotating or zooming the view try to select one of the marked vertices in both files.

2.79 worked in this case, open this file in 2.79 to test.

Looks like a precision problem, have you tried tweaking the view clip planes?

Yes, first thing I did, it doesn't seem normal that you need such a tight clipping range. 1km I can understand but 100m should work!

Just saying that clipping planes do have an influence.
In the second example (Select2.blend) the selection problem goes away when reducing the Clip End to 100m.
In the first example (Select1.blend) the rightmost and leftmost vertices become selectable when reducing the Clip End to 50m.

However, I canoot tweak the clipping planes to make the center vertex selectable either.

Unsure what could be wrong here without digging deeper, maybe @Clément Foucault (fclem) could comment?

Understood, as you said, there are still cases that remain unselectable no matter the clipping range. Also 0.1 - 100m is not an insane range.

Confirmed, also that this worked in 2.79 so I think it's reasonable to consider this a regression (added test file).
