Graphics card: GeForce GT 610/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 391.35

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.90.1, branch: master, commit date: 2020-09-23 06:43, hash: rB3e85bb34d0d7

Short description of error
AO node generates some strange black strips on object.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Get the blend and look at it in 3D view rendered mode.

Note those artifacts also appear in texture bakes.

Event Timeline

I think this is a combination of two things:

number one is related to these reports
T61066: wrong normal interpolations with AO node
T70988: Ambient Occlusion black artefact issues when moving object too far in 3d space
T43835: ray offsetting giving precission problems / render artifacts / cracks on far away geometry
T75469: AO shader artifacts
(ray offsetting giving precission problems on far away geometry -- this one could be worked around by moving the geometry closer to the origin)

The other one is related to this
T73767: ambient occlusion and shade smooth
(has the same roots, ray offsetting)

All these were not considered bugs, it is just a known thing which will eventually be solved by D6250: Fix T43835, T54284: Cycles with no ray offsetting.
So, we could close this as all the other reports, will merge into T75469: AO shader artifacts
