Viewport / renderport enabled -> disabled objects are deselected on timeline scrubbing
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Home 64Bit
Graphics card: GTX 1050 mobile

Blender Version
Broken: 2.91.2
Worked: not found

Short description of error
Animating viewport / renderport enabled / disabled objects cause blender to deselect the selected work object. It results in keyframe markers disappearing from the timeline when ever the object enters the viewport / renderport disabled state. This makes working extremely inconvenient animating viewport / renderport visibility.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Please open the attached blend file (The timeline location is set to frame 2)
  • Please select the cube in the viewport, you will notice the keyframes on the timeline now
  • Please scrub back to frame 1 with you preferred method

You will notice that the cube was deselected and if I wanted to continue working with it, I would have to select the cube again.

Comment
I don't now whether or not this is intended as is, but it results to be very inconvenient working with the animation feature of enabling and disabling objects in the view- and renderport.

Event Timeline

The Cube is hidden.
It is an old Blender convention that hidden objects are deselected.
This explains why hidden objects are not affected by operators (since the documentation only states that selected objects are affected).

I found a post proposing a change to this: https://blender.community/c/rightclickselect/Zgfbbc/
