Short description of error
[Please fill out a short description of the error here]
In Layout, View / Local view makes Layout object disappear when it is turned OFF..

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]
Look at the Blend file's Layout screen, then switch to Modeling. There seems no way to retrieve the object to Layout after using View / Local View. IF you can get the object shown in Modeling back into Layout, then go to View / Local View and turn it on and then OFF and see if the Layout object turns into a dot.....

Working in Layout, I was curious to see what View / Local View showed. It didn't help so I switched it off by drop down menu and turning it off. My object disappeared and I can't get it back. Clicking Modeling tab shows it is still there, but in Layout neither selection of a part of the object and clicking "." dot or Home brings back my object. I am using the latest Alpha downloaded an 2 hours ago. All that shows is a pixel of blue where it is likely the object has gone, but enlarging the image in the normal way seems to have little effect (top image). Second image shows Modeling tab view. Optics.blend file included.

You need to press "Numpad /" again to leave the local view. In local view only the selected object is displayed (if it is visible within the viewports clipping range).

Global view shows all 3D objects in the scene. Local view isolates the selected object or objects, so that they are the only ones visible in the viewport. This is useful for working on objects that are obscured by other ones, or to speed up the viewport performance in heavy scenes. Local view is contextual meaning that is can be set per 3D Viewport.

You can toggle between Global and Local View by selecting the option from the View Menu or using the shortcut NumpadSlash.

OK, there is still something wrong with this.

  1. Select an object in layout.
  2. Click numpad "/" (now in Local View and object jumps up to center screen)
  3. Click on dropdown View/ Local View / REMOVE FROM LOCAL VIEW
  4. Click on the second prompt: Remove From Local View?
  5. Selected object goes off screen and can only be retrieved with numpad "/"

The point is, what is the purpose of this menu item: View/ Local View / REMOVE FROM LOCAL VIEW since the numpad "/" does both functions and this other way of removing via the menu item doesn't work?

It is very confounding to new users to suddenly have the carefully constructed object get sent off screen with no obvious way to retrieve it. I suggest getting rid of this "View/ Local View / REMOVE FROM LOCAL VIEW" item unless it preforms some other vital function that is not apparent.

@Paul Muns (dznwks) Remove From Local View doesn't exit the local view, it excludes the selection from the local view, leaving only the other remaining objects in local view. This is all explained in the manual:

Objects can be removed from Local View by selecting them and using the Remove from Local View operator. This will move the selected object back to global view and all other objects will remain in local view. If the last remaining object is removed, the local view will be left empty and you will have to exit local view to see any objects.
