Crash with GPU Rendering and NV-Link
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: 2 x RTX 2080 with NVLink Bridge@ Driver 461.40

Blender Version
Broken: 2.92
Worked: not sure

Short description of error

The Blender UI freezes indefinitely when using Cycles GPU in either Viewport or Final Render when SLI is disabled in the Nvidia Driver with a Multi-GPU System and NV-Link Bridge.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Disable SLI in Nvidia Driver (required for other Softwares/Plugins for example) (see image attached)
  • Use any Blender File (e.g default Cube Scene)
  • Set Cycles to GPU
  • Hit Render/Enable Viewport Render Mode
  • Immediate Freeze - Stuck at "Updating Lookup Tables" (see images attached)

I found out that changing "Distribute Memory across devices" in Preferences does not prevent the problem. Only enabling SLI in the Driver Control Panel avoids freezing.

Please let me know if I can provide more information. Glad to help if I can.

Might be fixed in rBf4f8b6dde32b0438e0b97a6d8ebeb89802987127. Can you retest with a recent Blender version and the latest driver?
