Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Crash When Trying to Add Image Sequence

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
Open blank blender file
Save file to desired location
set output folder to //vcache\
change output file format to AVI JPEG
Go to Video Editing tab at top
Click add menu, then image sequence
It then crashes and closes
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

I cannot reproduce this with either the latest stable or current development versions of Blender:

There were a couple of reports in relation of the filebrowser used in the VSE, e.g. T85911: Adding video or audio to VSE Sequencer crashes Blender

Not exactly sure where the roots are, but since Factory setting resolved in T85911, please try that as well:
Please try with File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings to see if you still can reproduce this issue.
