Touchpad not working in Pop!OS
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.11.0-7614-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.17 64 Bits
Graphics card: Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 (SKL GT2) Intel Open Source Technology Center 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 20.3.5 (git-cd3161895e)

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.92.0, branch: master, commit date: 2021-02-24 16:25, hash: rB02948a2cab44
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

I open Blender. After approximately one minute, my Acer touchpad stops moving after opening Blender, only double clicking insanely when i touch the touchpad without it moving the cursor unless i take my finger off the touchpad and the doubleclicking stops. I close Blender (Ctrl+Q), still can't use the touchpad after closing Blender. I have to reboot my OS so i can use the touchpad again... the problem doesn't occur at all if i don't open Blender at all so I assume it's a Blender library problem. It's not a finger sweating problem.
Haven't tried it on other blender version, only 2.92, so i don't know if it happens to other versions.

Does this happen if you open Blender and do nothing and then after set amount of time touchpad doesn't work? Does this happen every time?
Can you provide info about hardware? At least notebook model, if you aren't sure about touchpad.

No it only happens after and when rendering. My laptop is Acer E5-574 Intel i5 Nvidia 920M. Sorry I couldn't know the touchpad model.

I need to plug a USB computer mouse so I can move the cursor again even if the touchpad is still being stuck, the mouse movement always works and bypass this issue even after or when rendering. Even if I close Blender after rendering, the touchpad still doesn't work (only doubleclicking on the same pixel/spot if touchpad is touched) UNLESS I REBOOT my laptop (that's the only way to re-use the touchpad). Then again I open Blender, after and when rendering the touchpad stops again. The issue doesn't happen at all if I don't render.

I don't know if it would matter, but I was using Linux Mint before and didn't have this problem (I switched to PopOS because of Nvidia facility)

Richard Antalik (ISS) claimed this task.

Thanks for information. It is quite weird that this only happens when rendering. Given that in different distro this worked, it is likely that this is not bug in Blender. This could be bug/conflict in kernel driver, daemon if there is any or perhaps device config. Unfortunately I have no way to debug this without hardware.

Oops wrong button, sorry

Yes it may be a kernel driver problem. I'll see what I can do.

Thank you for your consideration Mr. Antalik.

All the best to the Blender team.

@Luciano (lucio83) hi, did you find this useful?
Perhaps we close the report if this is not a bug in Blender

No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.

Thanks again for the report. If the problem persists please open a new report with the required information.

i upgraded from 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS.. and the touchpad problem is gone.
